About this deal

Well, TCL is here to make your assumptions look a long way wide of the mark. Its 55C645K costs way less than a screen with this kind of specification tends to. The TCL 55C735K features a sleek and modern design that will complement any living space. The slim bezels around the screen maximize the viewing area, providing an immersive visual experience. The TV comes with a sturdy stand that offers stability or can be wall-mounted for a clean and minimalist look. The overall build quality is solid, giving the TV a premium feel. Picture Quality Accordingly, if you’re looking for a Roku TV or 144Hz support or anything else, you can find it within TCL’s many different UK TVs on offer; however, for the purposes of this guide, we’ll be focusing on TCL’s flagship, lower-cost TVs with the most mainstream appeal. We weren’t sure that TCL was going to be able to offer something so obviously worthwhile with its first Roku TV for the UK but it has absolutely nailed it. It might not be the AV equivalent of fine dining but it’s more sophisticated than the chips and gravy of Hisense’s even cheaper Roku TV – and just as tasty. Overall, your choice of a TCL TV may come down to where you live. In the US there are plenty of TVs we’ve reviewed well, and TCL has built up an understanding of the market and what US viewers want from their televisions.

It ought to be clarified that this is a review of TCL 55C645K for the UK market, which differs from what you get on the continent, chiefly in terms of the interface. UK owners get Android TV while those not of these isles plug into Google TV as the smart interface. The TCL 6-Series is one of our favorite mid-range TV models – and has got a QLED upgrade too (Image credit: TCL) TCL features and formats The features of the TCL 55RP620K are largely set by the Roku system and that’s no bad thing, as Roku is an excellent platform. TCL is one of the more budget-friendly brands on the market, and their TVs offer great value for their cost. Their prices have been going up, however. The combination of Mini LED through LCD with the quantum dot enhancement film delivers highly accurate colour performance, the best of any of the various technologies used by TCL, it says. It delivers 100% of the DCI-P3 colour space, or to put it another way, every colour that a cinema camera is capable of capturing. The RS530K is available in either 32in or 40in and looks relatively similar in terms of specifications. It also has a 60Hz panel but the resolution is FHD (1,920 x 1,080) rather than UHD (3,840 x 2,160). Similarly, while there is support for the HDR10 and HLG formats, you don’t get the more advanced HDR10+ and Dolby Vision format support found with the RC630K. There are of course a few key differences between the 2022 and 2023 models. The C835K can’t hit the same levels of brightness as its successor, with peak brightness of 1,500 nits compared to 2,000 nits. It also uses an older processor – AiPQ 2.0 – meaning HDR tone-mapping and general processing aren’t quite as impressive. There’s no 98in option either, and the speaker system is powered differently, with two 15W drivers and a single 30W driver in place of the pair of 25W drivers and single 20W driver on the C835K.

Anyway, that’s the smallest of distractions from an image which combined brilliance with excellent motion handling and being set-and-forget across a range of material. Nor is there any problem watching on the sunniest of days with ambient light streaming in, given the brightness available here, combined with the TCL’s smart settings. Take that, OLED. Like every other TV on this list, it runs the Google TV interface with a huge selection of streaming apps. It also has an inadequate viewing angle, making it a poor choice for a wide seating arrangement. It's not a bad TV for gaming; its response time is okay, although it's worse in dark scenes, so it's not a great TV for fans of horror games. However, the TV's input lag performance is tremendous, leading to an extremely responsive gaming experience. It's also a stellar gaming TV with extremely low input lag in Game Mode. It supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on two ports, although its first port can output up to 4k @ 144Hz, while its second is limited to 4k @ 120Hz. Still, this TV can take full advantage of 4k @ 120Hz gaming on newer consoles. For PC gamers, the TV has issues outputting anything above 120Hz when connected to an NVIDIA graphics card, so it's better suited for PCs with AMD GPUs. Otherwise, the TV supports every variable refresh rate (VRR) technology for nearly tear-free gaming from any source. Finally, it runs Google's popular Google TV OS, which is very easy to use and has many apps. You can find out what's new for TCL in our TCL TV 2021 guide, where we run through the new QLED and 8K TV models we saw last year and the ones that are expected over the next twelve months, as well as what upgrades older favorites like the 5-Series and 6-Series are getting to stay up-to-date and competitive with more recent models. (Hint: it's a lot of QLED and Mini LED.) So this year, brightness is up, of course: HDR brightness goes from 1500 nits in last year’s specs to 2000 nits this year. We gather the full white brightness is 800 nits (impressive, especially considering the current 900 Series tops out at around 500) with peaks up to 2200 nits. The TCL 55C735K is available in a 55-inch size, providing an immersive viewing experience with its large screen. This size is ideal for medium to large-sized living rooms or entertainment spaces. However, TCL offers a range of size options for their QLED TVs, including smaller sizes for more compact environments or larger sizes for those seeking a truly cinematic experience. 4K Resolution Naturally, there’s not much in the way of a broad soundstage. There’s very little movement of the audio as we watch the “massive space battle” at the beginning of chapter 3 but, again, it’s important to have realistic expectations at this budget. Save change for a cheap soundbar and you’ll have yourself an excellent budget home cinema combo. Verdict

There are any number of apps in the Google Play store for streaming music, but also Bluetooth (and Chromecast and AirPlay) for streaming music to the TV. Setting upTCL 55 Inch display opens the door to brilliance like never before. Each frame is a testament to clarity and precision, drawing you into a world of captivating visuals. Whether you're enjoying movies, sports, or gaming, every detail is presented with striking clarity.

Switch to some 4K content from a streaming service and there’s only the slightest drop-off in detail levels and some restlessness to edge definition to let you know what’s what as regards your source. But you’ll know where your content is coming from already, because the C645K takes longer to load than any screen you’ve sat in front of in who knows how long – and once it’s loaded there’s a short period of jumping and stuttering while the system establishes a buffer.

TCL TVs aren't as polished as other brands, as there are often issues with upscaling and local dimming. They also tend to have a wide variety of quirks to contend with. Out of the box, the TCL 55C735K delivers impressive picture quality. However, calibration options are available for those seeking enhanced accuracy and fine-tuned visuals. The TV provides various picture modes, including Standard, Movie, Sports, and Game, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your preferences. Additionally, advanced users can access the TV’s picture settings for manual calibration, such as brightness, contrast, color temperature, and more. Calibration tools, such as color bars and test patterns, can help achieve optimal image quality based on your viewing environment. Software Updates Step into a world of immersive entertainment with TCL 55 Inch TVs. Engage with content that transports you to the heart of the action, whether it's cinematic storytelling or gaming excitement. Our TVs create an experience that's both captivating and engaging. TCL TVs may not be the best for gamers, largely opting out of supporting features like VRR or 120Hz, but this is often the case across brands at this price. High-end gaming features usually come with higher-end price tags, while TCL TVs will have no trouble with casual gaming, especially if you’re still playing on PS4 or Xbox One.
