Instead, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4's success comes down to integrating as obnoxiously well with Galaxy devices as the Apple Watch does with the greater Apple ecosystem. It masters a convenience that's been absent for Samsung's users, letting all the other chips fall in place. It's the best smartwatch for Android you can buy now. Unlike on most other watches, where you can adjust the angle of the strap relative to the body, on the Watch 4 Classic, the straps can only protrude perpendicularly from the sides of the body, which results in a sizable gap between the strap and your wrist on either side of the body; you can see this issue in the image of the standard Watch 4 below – and we'd consider our wrists to be pretty average-sized. They both have a new Exynos W920 chipset paired with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, they both run Wear OS 3 with a custom Samsung overlay dubbed One UI Watch 3, and they both have GPS, NFC, and a new 3-in-1 sensor for measuring heart rate, blood oxygen levels and body composition.The snoring measurement requires smartphone with Android 6.0 or later, 1.5GB of RAM, phone within 2 feet of user, with snore detection enabled through Samsung Health app version 6.18 or higher. I'm a quiet sleeper, but I do often wake up for an hour at a time in the early morning. In these instances, the Galaxy Watch 4 would record two separate sleeps, but show me the total time asleep in the morning recap. Consistent with IPX8 rating, water resistant in up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. Rinse residue/dry after wet.
How about those new body composition features? I’m not sure they’d be enough for me to upgrade from the Galaxy Watch 3 but, aside from weight, which you’ll need to add manually, the Galaxy Watch 4 offers most of the insights you’d get from smart scales such as the Garmin Index S2 – and it logged impressively similar measurements too. I would always take such readings with a pinch of salt, but if you want to keep an eye on general trends in your body fat and water composition, it’s certainly a handy addition. The Galaxy Watch 4 is also Samsung’s only smartwatch in recent years that doesn’t work with iPhones at all. Apple itself is notoriously restrictive but with Samsung moving to Google’s Wear OS, you’d hope it would become more accessible, not less. Intended for general wellness and fitness purposes only. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic’s battery life is, without a shadow of a doubt, its worst feature. While the standard model lasts about two days between charges, based on our review time, in our testing we’d estimate that the Classic lasts less than a single day before running out of charge. The Watch 4 seems faster than my Gear 3. The heart-rate and all of that cool jazzy stuff also seem to have undergone improvements. Half of the time it seemed that the Gear 3 would say the sensors need to be cleaned (to get my heart rate) and that seems to be fixed with the Watch 4. That was super annoying by the way, so good job on fixing that problem Samsung! Actual storage available may vary depending on pre-installed software. RAM capacity may vary depending on model, color, and country.
