About this deal

No man is above the law, and no man is below it…” says Roosevelt, reinforcing the importance of upholding the Rule of Law. It is also undoubtably true that men’s experiences have been at the forefront of putting the law into practice.

This book is a polemic and therefore asserts Kennedy’s opinion on the injustice of the criminal law by critiquing the intimidating nature of court with the paraphernalia of wigs and gowns, assessing the impact of this mystical element of the law, and talking about her experiences as a very successful female barrister. There is still a troubling, largely unconscious, perception that entitlement to a woman's body is something that can be debated.

Such brief basics will be helpful to a first-year law student since it helps you to approach law in a more rounded way. Most obviously but not exclusively the physical differences between men and women change the experience of these events and therefore the law cannot equally govern what happens next. Kennedy provides plenty of solutions and examples of best practice from around the world that we could easily incorporate, should we wish to change the justice system.

Expect an easy-to-follow, concise look at plenty of the issues facing women both practising Law and experiencing criminal justice as either defendants, victims or witnesses. The essence of her case is that justice is compromised because, too often, the people who are caught up in an already flawed legal process are judged on grounds that have nothing to do with the facts of their cases.
