About this deal

Caught using forbidden magic, Emelin is captured by the Silent Death and brought to the Crimson Court, where she learns more about the Silent Death and bargains with him. Unexpectedly, he decides to spare her life and abducts her to the most dangerous place for any human being: the Crimson Court at the heart of the Fae Isles.

Imagine having three life-coaches who had been through the toughest mental and physical challenges; a crack team of problem-solvers who knew in their day job that one mistake could be the difference between life - and death. There's a reason We Are Legion was named Audible's Best Science Fiction Book of 2016: Its irresistibly irreverent wit! This isn’t even the first book that’s followed a similar format, it’s just one of the few I’ve overlooked in favour of curiosity.Another review mentioned is a slow burn between Em and Creon, which is true, but once it gets going. There are a lot of back and forths between our two lovebirds throughout the book, it adds to the tension between the two. A resolve to be a giant among men, to conquer, plunder and seize the greatness that he thinks is his right. Do you feel weighed down by stress and pressure, held back by judgement and lack of opportunity, and critcised by everyone – including yourself? The Silent Death is supposed to be the Mother’s loyal servant, her invincible warrior, her ruthless, soulless killer.

There she is given the chance to undo her regrets and try out each of the other lives she might have lived. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. Although I found it a tad long, the plot never really dragged and I immediately picked up the second book in the series. In the absolutely packed Act II, the dark fantasy resumes and the Sandman expands into the French Revolution, ancient Rome, 19th-century San Francisco, eighth-century Baghdad, and beyond. I always enjoy when there is a communication barrier between the couple and they had to speak to each other through written notes for most of the book.Exactly what I needed right now and something I'll always love about fantasy books: a magical world, an evil ruthless villain, a kick-ass main character who meets someone that helps her grow in finding herself. The final few scenes are really gripping and the intensity carried all the way through to the last line, which leaves us with tons fuel for further books (that I will 1000% be reading). Random House presents the audiobook edition of Ikigai by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles, read by Noako Mori. They don’t hide from each other, they tease and they flirt, and every moment between them feels like it’s dripping with anticipation.
