The book starts with Elin, a headteacher, who is organising a surprise 90th birthday party for her grandmother who brought her up when her mother was unable to, despite her grandmother having said that she didn’t want a party. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Ruth Jones is, of course, a great storyteller, and she has pulled it off again with this tale of four generations of Welsh women.

But when a brutal killing takes place on their very doorstep, the Thursday Murder Club find themselves in the middle of their first live case. Grace is fast approaching her 90th birthday; the only thing on her mind is a reunion with Alys, the daughter she hasn’t seen for 30 years. A respected head teacher at the local school, Elin couldn't bear anyone to find out the truth about her mother. Love Untold is the first book I’ve read by Ruth Jones, but after loving it I’ve added her others to my (ever-growing) list. Grace doesn’t want a traditional celebration for her birthday, but her granddaughter Elin has other ideas. The reader is given windows into the thoughts and experience of each woman, but some of their secrets are only revealed later in the plot. For Alys, Grace’s daughter, Elin’s mother she has been constantly running from herself and has come close throughout her life to time running out. Grace is eighty-nine, she’s proud and independent and enjoys an early morning swim in the sea, no matter what the weather.

Ruth's second novel, Us Three, was an instant Sunday Times bestseller in hardback and paperback and has sold almost a quarter of a million copies. It is such a well written book, with the characters being fully formed and believable, it had me rooting for the best outcome for them all. Ruth Jones is best known for her outstanding and award-winning television writing, most notably BBC One's Gavin and Stacey , which she co-wrote with James Corden and in which she played the incorrigible Nessa Jenkins. MARILYN has somehow fallen into motherhood and spent four decades married to DAVID, who's pretty certain he loves her more than anyone has ever loved another person. She exudes warmth and wisdom, and reading this book makes you feel someone’s draped a warm overcoat across your shoulders.

This is a story about mothers and daughters: the love inherent in that bond and the heartache that miscommunication can bring.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, but I didn't find myself gripped like I did with her others.Grace is close to Alys’s own daughter, Elin, but the family rift runs deep, affecting Elin’s marriage and her relationship with her teenage daughter Beca. I loved all the characters and did not see the twist in the story coming, so it was rather emotional for reasons I can’t go into without giving away the ending. Love, mess, secrets; this story of four generations of women is filled with Ruth Jones's warmth and wisdom. Her debut novel Never Greener was chosen as WHSmith Fiction Book of the Year 2018, was nominated for Debut of the Year at the British Book Awards, was a Zoe Ball Book Club pick, and was a Sunday Times bestseller for fifteen weeks, three weeks at number one.

But Grace is close to the end of her life, and she knows she has no choice but to try to heal her family. The time she looses her cool is with her academic mum which she is the opposite like the rest of the family it seems. Sosuke Natsukawa's international bestseller, translated from Japanese by Louise Heal Kawai, is a story for those for whom books are so much more than words on paper. The conflicts and emotions are real and raw and you’ll find yourself relating to so many arguments and points of tension. WENDY, their eldest, a cause for concern, soothes herself with drink after being widowed young, while VIOLET, lawyer-turned-stay-at-home-mother, is disturbed by the reappearance of a son placed for adoption fifteen years earlier.Estranged from all of her family, blaming Grace for what has happened to her, it seems ironic that she suddenly reappears in all their lives.
