About this deal

This subgenre that is wholly dominated by TJR is so addictive that it tricked me into thinking I was out of my reading slump.

From the acclaimed author of Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo comes a breathtaking novel about a young woman whose fate hinges on the choice she makes after bumping into an old flame; in alternating chapters, we see two possible scenarios unfold—with stunningly different results. Taylor Jenkins Reid has blown me away again with Maybe in Another Life, another exceptionally beautiful, powerfully thought-provoking book, this one about destiny and soulmates and the choices we make.Does it matter that once I heard his wife’s voice, once I knew the names of his children, I never spoke to him again? Overall, while I found this to be a fluffy and very readable book, in retrospect I’m left wondering how I managed to enjoy it so much. if making me like books more than i expected to was a game, taylor jenkins reid would be undefeated. So if you re not a sucker for fate/choices stuff and want a book that excites you, you better not read this one.

One storyline follows Hannah going home with her friends, and the other is after she decides to stay with Ethan. It’s very easy to rationalize what you’re doing when you don’t know the faces and the names of the people you might hurt.

Despite Hannah having a romantic interest in both outcomes, her friendship with Gabby was so beautiful and wonderfully showcased. But after the fact, I did get to thinking about the things I didn’t like, and it left me kind of scratching my head as to why I enjoyed it so much.

Shortly after getting back to town, Hannah goes out to a bar one night with her friend Gabby and meets up with her high school boyfriend, Ethan.

She shows a lot more growth, learning and consideration not only for herself but also for others in this storyline. The intriguing premise and well-drawn characters contribute to an emotionally uplifting and inspiring story.

The first few chapters of the book felt fairly familiar - This could’ve easily been my college girlfriends and me (minus: one very poor decision) in our social routine. But even though a lot was happening, it was so well written that it was always gripping, never confusing, and loaded with feels. if there really is such a person as “The One” then shouldn’t Hannah have finished up with the same guy in both scenarios like Gabby did? With characters who feel like friends and a narrative that hooked me from the first page, After I Do takes an elegant and incisively emotional look at the endings and beginnings of love. When I come out of the gate, Gabby is holding up a sign that says “Hannah Marie Martin,” as if I wouldn’t recognize her, as if I wouldn’t know she was my ride.
