About this deal

The Asylum Years (1972-1975) is the latest entry in Rhino’s ongoing, GRAMMY-winning series exploring the vast untapped archives of rare Joni Mitchell recordings — a project guided intimately by Mitchell’s own vision and personal touch. The box set is completed by two DVDs which provide a new glimpse into 'Harvest': The first is 'Harvest Time', an unreleased two-hour film shot during the making of 'Harvest', with footage from Young's 'Harvest Barn' sessions in Northern California, recording sessions in Nashville and London.

But part of the fun of these reissues is the extra goodies that enhance the original songs and help the listener peer into the process of making music, and this is where the 50th Anniversary Edition excels. The final piece of the Harvest box set (besides a book and photographs) is a two-hour documentary, directed by Young, of the making of the album and Young’s life on his California ranch. In the edit page, go to the 'Metadata' tab and add your Juno artist, label or release page for listeners to purchase your release / releases. The 50th Anniversary Edition Box Sets will be released December 2, 2022 on Vinyl and CD, boasting the original album, three studio outtakes on CD/7” vinyl, an unreleased live 1971 BBC solo performance on CD, LP and DVD.

The three outtakes included with the reissue are “Bad Fog of Loneliness,” “Journey Through the Past,” and “Dance Dance Dance,” the latter two of which are also performed in the BBC set. Maggie May" performed by Rod Stewart courtesy of Island Records under exclusive license from Universal Music Enterprises. Musicians on Harvest include Ben Keith (pedal steel guitar), Jack Nitzsche (piano, lap steel guitar), Tim Drummond (bass), Kenny Buttrey (drums), John Harris (piano), Graham Nash, Stephen Stills and David Crosby (backing vocals), and the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Meechham. This should be amazing as it captures the making of the album from start to finish and was directed by Neil Young and his film crew in 1971.

The Dark Side Of The Moon’ is the eighth studio album by Pink Floyd, originally released in March 1973. CD3 - "Harvest" Outtakes was recorded by Elliot Mazer at Quadrafonic Sound Studios in Nashville, Tennessee on February 6th, April 4th and February 7th respectively, 1971. And, while each one will find its niche, it takes not just great source material but exceptional bonus, “new-to-us” music to rise above the glut of old-white-guy box sets. Out December 2 via Reprise, the 3xLP and 3xCD sets both come with a hardbound photo book, posters, and liner notes by photographer Joel Bernstein. Neil Young’s 1972 essential Harvest has received the special treatment for its 50th (plus a few months) anniversary. In the spring of 2023, a DVD replacement program was announced and a replacement DVD with corrected audio was released by mail to consumers providing proof of purchase. Relistening to Harvest is also a good reminder of Young’s storytelling ability, from the morass of drug addiction portrayed in “The Needle and the Damage Done” (such devastation, told in just over two minutes) and the peak Neil Young melancholy found in “Words,” topped off with fiery guitar work.
