About this deal
There was also the death and the maiden aspect of it, especially when we see Death’s POV and how he slowly comes to acknowledge his feelings but knows nothing can ever come of it. Of course, as expected, nothing ever goes as well as you would wish with our gang of four and their little road trip quickly spirals into a bit of a disaster going from bad to worse and Oliver’s hidden agenda is doing nothing to help.
but when you find yourself falling for the heir apparent of your family's greatest rivals, your world is shaken to its foundations. PB announced this book in the June 2022 Choices Insiders, stating that it "will feature a female main character born into one of the world’s most powerful crime families. There’s also an unfinished feeling; we spend literally half the book reading about step-brothers and then there’s suddenly nothing about them. The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal.
The beginning of the book (I don't want to say that it was slow) just took a long time to really set up the story and we don't get to meet The Bargainer until way later in the book. We also see some characters that should have stood up for Hazel but never really did, or only did when it was too late. If you're looking for a short and captivating read to escape reality, a touching love story with a drop of pain, then this one is for you.
Hazel's a tormented character, yet she remains strong and kind, hoping for a day when she can escape the hell her stepmother made sure to put her through. The Meh: The writing isn’t horrible, although the pacing leaves something to be desired (which I’ll get to soon).
The Yes: I appreciate having a dark fantasy that doesn’t have vampires or fae - those are a bit overdone in my opinion. On a school trip to the plague village of Eyam, Seth is moved by the story of how villagers sacrificed their lives to the dreaded Black Death. Cover: I think that by now we all know that Lauren Henderson doesn't really make her covers relate a whole lot to her books as a whole. We take pride in offering a wide selection of used books, from classics to hidden gems, ensuring there’s something for every literary palate.
she's a wilting daisy woven into a entryway mat everyone stomps all over and i really hope she grows beyond that personality in future books. No backbone at all, extremely frustrating to see her just get abused and she is too dumb to just tell her father about it and the fact she won't for stupid reasons. Finch doesn’t take his foot off the accelerator right up until the last page which leaves you breathless and stunned, desperate for more. They must uncover the mystery of what has happened both to Sorrel’s father, who is plagued by a strange madness that prevents him from sleeping, and to Marko’s father, a doctor, who has mysteriously gone missing after travelling to Venice to help his old friend .
a must read, anyone will enjoy this book, something for everyone of all ages i love these book, they are way better than the twilight books more in them. I did find the second half moderately more engaging than the first but it wasn’t enough to keep me hooked for the rest of the series. at about 51% the story very suddenly changes pace and abandons almost all of the characters from the first half of the book which was pretty off putting. The latter in particular is such a cool mix of a classic story in a contemporary setting, which really worked perfectly for this book.
The book picks up from Fade Out with Claire and her friends owing a debt to Morley, one of the less than pleasant vampires (if there is such a thing as a pleasant vampire! Whilst this presents a very welcome opportunity for them to get out of Morganville and away from the nasty Morley Vampire it also comes with the unexpected downside of Oliver accompanying them as chaperone.
