My Racist Dog: Only Trusts Whites (Rejected Children's Books)
About this deal
I had a dog as a child and he would bark and go mad at any man with facial hair, it was really strange and there was nothing at all we could do about it. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.
This lady then looks really nervous - and I'm trying desperately to catch the dog and apologise profusely at the same time. If your dog has never met a Black person before – or someone wearing a burqa, or other ethnic or religious clothing that your dog has never seen – he may exhibit some reactive behavior. As soon as the scary stimulus is out of view, or far enough away that the dog stops paying any attention to the stimulus, the handler stops feeding the treats or the game. And cyclists (he's even been known to bark at a pedestrian who was walking to his bike, was impressed at that insight). This is understandable for a number of reasons, probably top on the list being that most owners don’t particularly want to go out and embarrass themselves and anger or annoy complete strangers by going out regularly every day and tracking down dark-skinned people their dog will react to and bark/lunge at. You can shrug it off and act like it’s no big deal, but know that this is not a problem that is going to go away by itself. If a dog is raised in a homogenous community with limited access to the world, they may be hesitant—and sometimes aggressive—in the presence of something or someone new.
My Mum's dog goes insane every time she sees a black man, full on barking, running round like crazy if off-lead. There’s even a historical case of an attempt to train army dogs to attack Japanese people, but after repeated efforts the dogs weren’t able to reliably distinguish the race.
