About this deal

Daisy and Simon have struggled with infertility, so when their longed for daughter Millie arrives, everything seems to, at last, have fallen into place. But Simon is quite fond of a drink, a pleasure that he cannot deny himself, even if it causes distress and anguish for his wife and daughter. One dark night, as the relationship between Simon and Daisy seems to be at a tipping point, a tragedy befalls the small family, one that will take them to the very brink, and an already fractured marriage will be laid bare and more vulnerable than ever before. Daisy and Simon have spent years trying to have a baby, after so much heartache and failed attempts at fertility treatment they finally conceived naturally and the beautilly charismatic Millie is born. As the story developed, I could not believe some of the surprise revelations that Parks includes. At some points I was gasping in disbelief, finding myself re-reading some paragraphs in case I had missed something! There were some clever plot twists that come in the final chapters, so this is definitely a book you need to see through to the end to truly appreciate Parks thrilling narrative. I can honestly say I got very flabbergasted after getting blown away by several twists. Some of them are unnecessary! Lies come in every shape and size. From a harmless, itty-bitty white lie, to show-stopping whoppers! And as the title would imply, this book has them all!

There are good points. The prose is smooth, and the pacing is excellent. Another positive is that the beginning – where Dora talks about her life as a prostitute, and the setup for the trip takes place – is intriguing. Simon was introduced to alcohol from an early age and it becomes very clear to see he has a problem! Harry Bosch and the Lincoln Lawyer team up to exonerate a woman who’s already served five years for killing her ex-husband. I really hate books with gaslighting and I didn’t realize how prominently it would feature here. I couldn’t wait for Dora to catch up with what the reader already knows. The pacing is all off in this book and the first reveal isn’t even a reveal because we have no idea who this person is or why we should care.

Featured Book

Overall, I enjoyed this one. I welcomed a different plot, which had some surprises in store. The ending was a bit ambiguous, but overall still a solid read. 3.75 stars, rounded to 4 here. Daisy and Simon have been together for years and have the most perfect, miracle six-year-old daughter named Millie. When Millie was first born Daisy had struggled big time, the doctor had called it postnatal depression. Some of the twists to the story left me gasping for air others push it for me and didn’t add up for me, and I thought were done for the convenience of the story. In the end, it all worked for me. Just when I thought things were wrapping up, there is another twist to the story that left me surprised.

A week at a beautiful French chateau should be an easy final job for Dora. She's smart, stunning and discreet.

Simon is so desperate to have another baby he bullies Daisy into attending an appointment to see if they can conceive again. Whilst I don’t agree with all of Simons actions it was at a friends party that highlights how others are not giving him the support he so desperately needs. Daisy and Simon are the proud parents of six-year-old Millie. Millie is a bright and vivacious child who lights up the room. Daisy and Simon struggled for many years trying to have a baby before Millie came. Simon really wants to give Millie a sibling. Years of trying again have failed and Simon’s drinking has become a full fledged addiction.
