About this deal

Despite this, the mid-range is not overly recessed and there’s an open, forward-sounding quality to the SoundMagic HP151 that delivers just enough detail to leave you smiling. They’re not quite as eager, perhaps, as the Sony MDR-1A, but I prefer the character of the HP151 overall. Finally, the highs provide a detailed sparkle that isn’t too rolled off at the top end. Cymbals sound natural and songs such as Calvin Harris’ “Slide” are toe-tappingly fun to listen to.

Mids stay clear and unaffected from any mid - bass cloudiness, voices sound quite realistic with the right timbre and good articulation, vocalists seated somewhere in the middle of the stage , not too front nor stepped behind. The mids are recessed with an added touch of warmth. This makes the male vocals more forward and highlighted more than the female vocals. In conjunction to the bump in the lower mids, the upper mids are toned down a bit, causing the female vocals and instruments in this section to sound slightly muffled or veiled. Internally, the P23BT utilizes 40mm dynamic drivers. There’s no active noise cancellation but during normal use, these are still suitable for most normal environments such as commuting etc.

I was surprised with the SoundMAGIC P23BT. I felt, on first look, that this would be another cheap and frankly, nasty, pair of Shenzhen-made headphones. They really surprised me though. So much so that this entire review was written whilst the SoundMAGIC P23BT were on my head belting out some Tion Wayne, SR and Pa Salieu. The performance remains mostly unaffected and only the treble is losing in quality, becoming coarse, thinner and slightly more forward, otherwise this is one of the best sounding budget Bluetooth headphones I have used so far and it gets pretty loud too.

About SoundMAGIC Headphones

The P23BT is not the most refined listen but it is not supposed to be and although there is some grain to the sound it is not too much as to spoil the otherwise excellent performance.

Based on real life scenario, where I don’t usually use 8 hours a day, say only 2 hours or less, it will last you weeks before you need to recharge The microphone provides clear conversations and can also be used to activate commands using a voice assistant. Bluetooth 5.0 provides robust connectivity that can stream high-quality audio from Android or Apple devices without dropping out over a range of around 13 meters. They blend quite well with the instruments in a very satisfying and cohesive way and the same goes for the higher pitched members of the orchestra that sound sparkling and agile. We’re here to help make the search for the best cheap headphones easier by highlighting several pairs we think our worth the spend. When we review headphones we look at many factors, whether it be comfort, portability, wireless connectivity, and of course sound quality. The headphones on this list are we efforts we found scored consistently well in these categories and more. The head band is made of rubber and is very comfortable (looking at T10, which hurts my head like crazy after a few minutes.). P23BT is also lightweight and is very comfortable to wear, it feels like I am wearing nothing at all, and what amazes me is it does not have that suffocating feel (unlike KZ T10). With 10 minute charge you get 5 hours playtime through the 400mAh large capacity lithium battery and continuous play of 54-60 hours on full charge. A staggering 50 days standby time means you don't need to ever worry about being caught out with an empty battery. I was also surprised by the isolation here. With the volume on an almost unbearable 50%, there is only a faint sound coming from these when off the head at just 1-foot away. With them on the head, it’s even less. Perfect for those starting to commute again. Thanks to the included NFC pairing chip on the ear cup, pairing is as easy as waving your NFC-enabled smartphone over that location. Standard Bluetooth pairing will work just as well too. I know this is something most people use rather infrequently (pair once, and go) but I do like little inclusions like this. The noise-cancellation is solid at this price, focusing on culling low frequency sounds and clearing away ambient noise so it’s less of a bother. We wouldn’t say that these headphones clear away every noise they come across, but they’ll make the daily commutes and journeys around cities like London feel less chaotic and disruptive.
