About this deal

GripGrab says: "The Nordic 2 Windproof Deep Winter Lobster Gloves are for riders with no 'off-season'. If there is snow on the side of the road or trails, and it is safe to go cycling, then these are the gloves to keep your hands warm and comfortable on deep winter adventures.

Neoprene gloves seem like the perfect solution to riding in the rain. In reality, that is true but only when the rain is reasonably warm. As long as the air isn't too cold your hands will get wet then warm the water in the neoprene and you'll be toasty warm. If that's your riding environment then neoprene gloves are a great option and there are a ton to choose from. Every Sportful glove I've ever tried feels amazing gripping the bars. It was exactly that feeling, almost like a surgical glove, that almost got the Sportful Fiandre Light gloves on this list. In the end, they aren't quite warm enough but Sportful does have another option that's just as grippy.Pearl Izumi, a very popular apparel brand in the cycling community, has been making lobster gloves for years (probably decades.) They have produced many typical gloves, but the latest model in a new take on lobster gloves. Castelli often makes use of Gore-tex fabrics and then builds products that are similar to Gore Cycling but with a performance twist. That is the case here as well and the Castelli Espresso GT gloves use a traditional waterproof Gore membrane just like the Gore C5 gloves. The two gloves also share similarities in weight and use but Castelli focuses on hard and fast performance riding. These are the standard, regular gloves with full protection and grippy fabric on the palm side. Most of the time you’ll want to wear full-finger cycling gloves when cycling in winter. At the wrist is a hook and loop closure to keep the wind out. It does a great job but it’s so good that it ends up being the only mis-step in the design and will sometimes require using your teeth to get it open. But right now we’re looking at the MEC lobster gloves, which are highly regarded when it comes to quality lobster gloves. Even though they aren’t specifically a cycling company, I hear a number of cyclists raving about their great MEC lobster gloves. The most challenging situation for the best cycling gloves is cold rain. No matter what a brand might say, there is no such thing as a waterproof glove. There are gloves with waterproof membranes but those gloves still aren't waterproof. If you ride in cold rain for more than a couple of hours you will have wet and freezing hands. When it's raining and just above freezing it's nearly impossible to keep your hands warm. That also happens to be very typical weather for Portland Oregon and the winter weather I regularly spend seven hours riding in. Out of necessity, I've worked out strategies over the years. Down Low Glow lights illuminate your bike frame with neon light and are visible from the sides. I've been hit by a car that didn't notice my front headlight, and I bet this would have made them look!

Galibier Zephyr All Surface gloves

The same goes for wind and waterproof riding. The gloves with waterproof quality membranes can work the best while you ride.

The inner doesn't want to come out with your fingers when removing the gloves, either, which is a trait similar gloves can often like to annoy you with. Other than those few foibles, the Pearl Izumi AmFIB Lobster Gel gloves are at the top of my list. Tech Specs: Pearl Izumi AmFIB Lobster Gel gloves Sportful's Lobster Gloves are a similar price. They come with a two-by-two claw and claim to be both wind and waterproof, and come with a toggle closure on the wrist to keep draughts out. in 1 gloves for all conditions: with fleece gloves that are simple to remove from the outer shell, these gloves become an outer shell, a set of fleece gloves, or a combination of both for ultimate warmth. On Tuesday it wasn't particularly cold but I'm worried that with them getting that damp, they will get very cold. The Nordic 2s are designed for arctic winter rides where the temperature hovers around zero, with added wind chill. As GripGrab is a Scandinavian company, you'd hope its designers have plenty of experience and know-how in making a glove that can cope with the most digit-numbing of conditions. But while GripGrab can certainly make a very warm glove, you may not find it perfect for cycling.

If you’re gloves aren’t doing the job, and you don’t want to invest in a pricey new pair, or perhaps you’ve already got some heavy duty gloves but still feel the chill, it’s time for liners. I've used a few lobster style gloves before and, all things considered, I much prefer a two-by-two finger pairing. Your fingers might feel different. Value The Eddie Bauer Guide Pro Smart heated gloves aren't a cycling specific pair. Don't let that dissuade you though. The Guide Pro Smart heated glove is a serious deep winter option even without the heating elements so there's a good amount of padding on your hand anyway. I do wonder if these were designed by cyclists if someone might have tried to slim them down a bit but it’s not a terrible trade off given the use. More importantly, these gloves work better than any other set of heated gloves I've tested. The Deluxe gloves have added grippers, and a ‘french terry sweat wipe’, otherwise known as drippy nose wipe. There's another thing to consider about these gloves though. If you ride where it rains and it's near freezing, like it is most of the winter in the US Pacific Northwest, then the Castelli Diluvio gloves are the other half of your winter riding system. Pair these with one of the shell options here and you can happily ride all day in heavy rain and temperatures just above freezing. With the shell protecting these from the wind and cold air, your body can heat up the water exactly the way neoprene gloves work in warmer weather. You'll be wet but warm and you won't need to change gloves every few hours. It's a serious game changing option. We've reviewed plenty of winter gloves on road.cc, but the lobster design is a little rarer, so there aren't many to compare these GripGrabs against. Cuffs play a major part in every glove. It offers an opening for cold or wind to sneak inside. The best winter cycling gloves will have a wrist opening velcro for easy removing and closing. How to choose the best winter gloves for your riding Match your gloves to your typical riding conditions The low-density padding also gave rise to tingling, numbness and similar discomfort much past the hour mark. Even so, my hands remained perfectly dry.
