About this deal

This is a dupe for Kilian Good Girl Gone Bad, which is a very beautiful white floral that is unfortunately dominated by an overpowering osmanthus note. If you couldn’t deal with the osmanthus note in GGGB but enjoyed the scent, this is a wonderful alternative. I also don’t go nose blind to this as I had with GGGB. Kismet is a beautiful combo of tuberose and narcissus, with amber, wood, and a touch of rose. The apricot adds a beautiful fruity jammy brightness to the overall fragrance. The performance is not bad (4-5 hours or wear with moderate projection) and for the size and cost of the bottle, I wouldn’t mind having to overspray it. So far so good and bravo to Killian for putting on the market a brand that promises to provide a different kind of luxury, given the fact that he is the heir of a very long and quality industry of a totally different field - yet he chose to be involved in perfumery clearly because of pure love for it. I respect that. I often have trouble with performance of fragrances because my body (and especially my skin) run very warm compared to average, but Kismet for Men actually performs pretty well on me. Sillage and endurance are reasonable for the cost.

I decided that I would give it a try this morning since I would be in a temp controlled environment all day. I still put down a base layer of "By the fireplace" and put about 4 spritzes of "Kismet" on top. I was really excited with my buy until I returned home, got prepared for an outing and sprayed the fragrance on me. In the meantime, I couldn't find anywhere the smells of the other "Killians" that I had tested. These are different, although there are striking similarities with vanilla & patchouli, and this gets more similar to Tuxedo a few hours into the dry down. Tuxedo has vanilla-patchouli more forward and a more obvious rose accord, while Kismet for Men has a more forward vetiver. Both have excellent performance. Tuxedo outperforms. First spritz... And I was hit with an overwhelming scent of hairspray. Whuhhh. I was so confused. Can't figure out what's causing it.It's something that a lot of women, myself included, would be happy to wear everyday in warmer months. But like I said in the beginning, there is absolutely nothing bad about it, this good girl stayed good with her green fruits and soap. I thought this was the most delicious, sweet, sexy, slightly animalic white / yellow floral and I knew i wanted a bigger bottle. I couldn't understand the people complaining it smelled like "spicy hot milk." Then I can see why it's "gone bad": the cedar wood note that comes through in the drydown gives a touch of resinous, pungent edge that disturbs the previous petals bath. It becomes dry, almost cologn-y.

Have to admit i bought this fragrance blindly after hearing of YSL Tuxedo on a Demi Rawling video where she called it the best men's fragrance ever. Her raving about it seems really genuine (In time i learned to take Youtuber's opinions with more then a grain of salt). Rochas Moustache was unavailable for a while in my country and frankly i prefered this one's presentation. Both this and Moustache are clones of Tuxedo. Frankly, I am really disappointed not to have found any value for money in this buy, because this perfume is absolutely overhyped. So I've found a new indisputable love - I mean to get a bigger amount of this as soon as I can, and I definitely see a full bottle of Kismet somewhere in my future. This is my second sample from Lubin, and the second one that's a big hit with me; I have to dive deeper into this house as soon as possible!

This is a dupe of Moustache EDP Rochas and I would say it's about 90-95% similar although it might get more similar with an aged bottle. In Kismet for Men, vanilla-vetiver-patchouli does a good job of giving an impression of the benzoin in Moustache EDP Rochas. The opening fresh & warm spicy notes last longer in Kismet for Men, but the benzoin in Moustache EDP is more swoon-worthy for those who don't go nose-blind to it. Overall, this is a pretty good dupe, but not better than the OG Moustache EDP imho, since the benzoin is my favourite part. Moustache EDP has better performance, but it seems that many people go nose-blind to both of these. I'm posting this review to be informative for those looking at Kismet as an alternative to Rochas Moustache EDP. The difference is subtle, they are so close with Moustache having only slightly better performance and quality that it isn't even a factor in my opinion. However, when one pays such an amount of money knowing exactly what it is they buy, they expect - if not demand - their fragrance not only to be unique, but also to be distinctive; that is to have projection. Unique fragrances according to the side of your personality that you wish to enhance by emitting a particular scent.

I patiently await the cooler weather so I can start wearing my generous decant of Lubin Kismet. The rich, resinous notes found in this fragrance do unfortunately nauseate me if I attempt to wear this perfume during Summer. It's also important to go light on the sprays, as a little bit goes a long way. It's such a wonderful, warm scent, at the same time super comfortable and wearable, and very complex and elegant. It's very much an oriental fragrance to my nose, which is a category that usually leaves me cold, but Kismet is exceptional in every sense. Opoponax and labdanum are prominent from the very start; at first they're joined by rather bitter citrus notes, which is nice, but the magic starts to happen a little later on when the vanilla joins the party. It settles down deliciously powdery and sweet, but in a balanced way - the resins make sure of that, and this combination is really a match made in heaven, and executed to perfection. This balanced character makes it very versatile as well; I can imagine wearing this in almost any situation and even any type of weather except high summer, and never getting tired of it. It also projects just right, and lasts all day. For me, it falls into the category of scents I could imagine having as a signature if I were still that kind of perfume wearer. I've only had a sample of this, and I didn't have an issue at all with longevity, projection or sillage, but based on the price and others saying they regret buying a full bottle, I don't think I'll consider a full bottle. And I conclude: I do not exclude the possibility that the fragrances of Killian's brand are not made for my skin. However, when a perfume lover chooses this kind of niche perfumery to buy from, they shouldn't end up absolutely scentless within one hour. I was sampling a whole bunch of white florals in a row, and this is the only one that really stood out to me. I thought it was a little complex, I had a hard time describing it. It was definitely the most interesting in the line up.I find the main difference between the two is that Moustache has slightly more vanilla or better quality vanilla that makes it more noticeable. It just smells smoother now. How can something have a more powerful effect and sillage...but no lasting power or longevity!? After a few minutes the florals began to come out. It was another confusing moment as it was sour smelling florals with a tinge of hairspray, but when I sniff at my wrist it was much sweeter, mostly tuberose and jasmine (that I can discern anyway)
