About this deal

The aerials were located in accordance with the instructions, and the car was driven on a set route to see how the units coped with patchy DAB signal strength in valleys, as well as between buildings and other obstructions. As said, if you have a phone, especially with an ulimited'ish data contract I'd try streaming off that, wouldn't be as convenient though. It’s not worth running through the entire installation as part of this review, but there are some key things to note.

According to Gary Richardson on BBC Radio 4 the Birdsong is now getting a higher audience than Oneword did.The downside is the need for an extra cable to route, with wires needed for power, the aerial and aux out.

I can’t tell you if this feature is any good, because I tend to listen to Radio 5 Live, where music tends to be off the menu. The sound quality isn’t as crisp and clear as when listening to the radio – there’s a noticeable ‘hiss’ between songs – but it’s good (not to mention a legal requirement) to access Spotify or other apps without touching your smartphone. The unit struggled to find even the BBC’s national stations, and couldn’t hold them when we were in areas of low reception. I will hopefully soon be getting a new car with both an aux and USB port so I can hook up both this and an Ipod direct to the ICE - can't wait. with fade on burble disabled and the pure magmount active aerial it is fantastic, pulls in a strong signal even where the sony dab unit in my hired mondeo titanium x drops off but the cable is far too short and as it`s special coax it`s hard to splice witout signal drop.

The Laguna doesn’t have an aux-in socket, so the Highway system is broadcasting the DAB signal on 87. Also, depending on the quality of your DIY install, you may have to live with a few exposed wires, but more on this in a moment. To use the adapter, you need to attach an antenna to the windscreen of your car, so it’s not quite as simple as “plug and play”.

Like all our products, Highway was designed and engineered in the UK by our expert engineering teams, ensuring great sound and impressive build quality. Been thinking about switching to one of these as my Revo Dab has become more and more unreliable of late. The flipside is that you’re left with a wireless controller fastened to your dashboard and an antenna attached to the windscreen. On our test route, using the FM method brought annoying interference on both the FM channel and the DAB. If you’re after digital radio with the added benefit of Spotify music streaming, the Pure Highway 400 might be the answer.
