Overall I give this book a 5/10 and I would recommend this to anyone who is newly interested in psychology. I don't know if I'm saying this because I've read about body language (briefly) before, but I feel like most tips in this book were about very obvious things. A few fingers, a palm, or even a fist near the mouth helps us not to release the words we don’t want to say. In England, however, making the American “V for victory” sign is an insult with sexual connotations.

From the renowned founder of The Negotiation Institute Gerard Nierenberg comes this easy to use guide to improving your ability to communicate with other people. It's one powerful, game-changing skill that can be strengthened with the right resources and How to Read People Like a Book is the perfect tool to help you do it.Just because a person isn’t wearing a religious attire, it doesn’t signify that he is not religious. In addition certain very good shoe brands outlast cheaper brands by far, and although they may start to look worn with time, they are made to last for more than a decade, and therefore will cost many times over what a cheaper shoe in a similar style would cost. Another example, when we are comfortable with a person, we tend to move our torso closer to that person and face in that direction.

It doesn't give you groundbreaking information but merely sheds a light on gestures we use everyday; gestures that we probably are already aware of intuitively. Faded clothes, discount clothing labels or worn shoes might tell you if a person has less money, although many principled people shun the pressure dictated by fashion and make a point of wearing simple clothes made of natural fabrics which naturally fade faster.

But the prerequisite to reading personalities properly is that you first understand your own personality. It is quite well known among anyone remotely familiar with me that I enjoy reading books and that I have a great deal of interest in the problem of interpersonal communication [1]. People were able to judge the shoe owner’s personality with reasonable accuracy even by looking at pictures of the shoes alone!

Are we really capable of knowing what's inside other people's minds, what they're feeling, or what their plans are? By the way, a pencil, a pen, a cigarette, and even chewing gum in the mouth can indicate the same thing. You must have seen crime-thriller shows and wondered how do those cool detective protagonists figure out what’s going on in the suspects minds and get ahead of them. The author begins the book by saying how some people seem to have magical ability of reading people.I joined the awesome Jordan Harbinger for the Art of Charm podcast on How to Read People Like a Book. A 2017 analysis of around 50 studies showed that people’s faces rarely reflected their actual feelings. If you get to design a character in a game which character traits would you emphasise and which you would ignore? The more often participants showed all four of these cues, the more they acted in their own self-interest during the game. Had some interesting parts especially towards the end but the constant reminders that reading people isnt an exact science became very grating.

During the session the psychotherapist thought this was a sign of the patient feeling uncomfortable. I understand what King was trying to say by making the counterargument, but King mentioned this throughout the book. Do not jump to conclusions when your wife goes to bed early rather than watching your favorite TV show with you. Here is a quick description and cover image of book Read People Like a Book: How to Analyze, Understand, and Predict People’s Emotions, Thoughts, Intentions, and Behaviors (How to be More Likable and Charismatic Book 9) written by Patrick King which was published in . This book is a great start for beginners as it breaks down all the components clearly, like environment, exceptional cases, etc. This is one strategy for reading people you’re surely already using, even if just unconsciously: look at the persons’ clothes. This can be a positive thing, such as physical attraction, or an unconscious manifestation of stress from being the center of attention. I read in a review about this book that the author is just explaining other people's work/discoveries and at first I didn't agree with it, but as soon as I got into chapter 3 I understood what this person meant, as the entire chapter nearly consists of "Tests" that were created for the different personality types, e. Well, this book will not only teach you about body language, but also help you connect with other people.
